Ian is a former managing partner of L'Estrange & Brett which merged with Pinsent Masons in 2012. He currently heads up the property team in Northern Ireland and sits on the national management team for real estate. Ian advises in relation to all aspects of real estate law with an emphasis on complex development work, allied construction and strategic property solutions for both public and private sector clients.

Ian has been named as a "leader in the field" in the top tier for real estate in Chambers UK Guide to the Legal Profession for a number of years. Chambers describes Ian as "a pragmatic lawyer who is great at keeping on top of loose ends and getting a deal across the finishing line".

Ian also acts as a specialist advisor to high net worth individuals and again is cited as a leader in his field in the area of trusts, wealth structuring and charity law.

Ian is a council member of the Law Society of Northern Ireland and chairs the Education Committee. Ian also sits on the Council of Legal Education.

He is a committee member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and is a former member of the Law Commission of Northern Ireland Land Law Reform Working Group.
