Areas of Practice

In addition to the usual areas of civil and commercial litigation, I have more than 30 years experience of disputes involving (a) land law issues ranging from adverse possession to boundary disputes to rights of way and/or light to restrictive covenants to business tenancies; (b) the care and/or death of an older person and matters ranging from the failure to provide properly for a relative or a carer to whether or not a Will should be admitted to probate to the administration of the estate; (c) the recovery of money and matters ranging from banks and mortgages and/or charges to receivers to creditors and debtors in a commercial context; and (d) the death of a loved one in a hospital setting and/or complaints about the handling of an older person by medical/nursing/social care practitioners.

Pen Portraits

I have always had a passionate interest in matters relating to the cost-efficient resolution of disputes. To complement my professional practice as a Barrister-at-Law, I was a participant on the Law Society Course on Alternative Dispute Resolution in 1992. I was acknowledged as a Consultee by the Civil Justice Review Group in its interim report in 1999. I was a member of the Lord Chancellor`s Legal Aid and Advisory Committee between 2002 and 2006. I have also undergone training with AgeNI in the context of peer facilitation.

Having been involved in the resolution of thousands of disputes in respect of an encyclopedic spectrum of issues, I have the ability, from a neutral point of view, to engage with and listen to people of all ages and from all backgrounds and at all levels of society and sector. I can capture their views, opinions and experiences, so that I can both better understand the nature of a dispute and facilitate a proportionate and mutually acceptable resolution of the issues in what can otherwise be a challenging and emotively charged situation.
