I have practised as a Barrister in Northern Ireland since 1982 and took silk in 2006. I have extensive experience in commercial, employment and defamation law, acting for a wide variety of corporate and insurance clients. My commercial practice includes contractual and other disputes, arbitrations and professional negligence. Commercial experience has merged well with media and defamation law. I also appear regularly for public bodies, including NIHE, The Health Trusts, Belfast City Council and various Government Departments.

Since November 2014, I have mediated, or am presently involved in approximately 50 mediations, including construction and partnership disputes, the interpretation of commercial agreements, employment cases, professional negligence claims and disagreements over land.

I have been an MIB Arbitrator since 2006 and have arbitrated in 78 cases and conducted 8 appeals. I have also additional arbitration experience in commercial and construction cases and am an independent assessor in relation to compensation under the Criminal Justice Act 1988.

I am presently Chairman of the Bar Mediation Services Committee.

In 2018 I was appointed by the Department of Health to chair an independent Inquiry following Northern Irelandís largest recall of patients.
